 The Tick
Bumbling BeeIntroduced in Tick and Arthur #2, Bumbling Bee becomes a founding member of Tick's superteam. While a funny name, I never really incorpoated any actual bumbling on her part.
Crazy Blue RocketAn insane hero inspired by Batman circa the death of Robin storyline. Basically, Rocket's sidekick got blown up and the only remains were the tongue, which Rocket now carries with him in a jar. He's also a member of the superteam.
Caped CodThe jerk of the superteam. He's the Batman of the group in that he has no real superpowers. Unless jerkiness is a superpower.
Man-o-WarA bit character from Ben Edlund's original series who becomes a member of the Tick's superteam in the Tick and Arthur series.
Greased PigSidekick who first appears in the 1998 Summer Fun Special and later in the Hunt for Greased Pig storyline in Tick and Arthur.
ChairfaceOne of the great iconic characters from Ben Edlund's original series.
Flea & DoyleTwo superhero wannabes who stalk Tick and Arthur and eventually learn thes ropes from them in Tick and Arthur #5.
Rubber DuckyAn obvious nod to Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four. I always meant for him to have a twin brother, the Malleable Mallard, but never got around to it, although the costume was fully designed and ready to go.
CandymanVisually, a spoof of Mysterio from Spider-Man, right down to the gumball dispensers being where Mysterio's eyes would be. First appeared in the 1998 Big Romantic Adventure, with his schtick being candy-based weapons.
BoozeHoundBartender at the superhero bar, The Power Keg. No real reason for the oversized gloves other than I thought it would be funny if he were constantly dropping bottles because of them.
Cursing GypsyNever did too much with her, but always kinda liked her "expletive symbols" costume pattern.
Blind BatA spoof of Daredevil, down to the overlapping letters on the chest. I always figured he had no powers but thought he had a sonar scream, which would actually just be a normal scream. Basically, he'd be able to tell where people were by their annoyed reactions. The dog sidekick is from the New York Sidekick Lounge from Edlund's original series.
FireplugHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I just thought it funny that Lucky had such a ridiculously demeaning and stupid costume for a sidekick. But I guess he's okay with it.
Golfer VigilanteHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I figured he was like Hawkeye or Green Arrow, but with lots of trick irons and clubs.
Killer WhaleHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I created them for no other reason than because I thought it would be funny have a sidekick named Chum. But I have to admit, the Killer Whale costume is pretty damn cool.
Senor CactusHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I just like the gag of El Nino being covered in band-aids from being paired with a cactus. |
Mighty MulchHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special.
Urban SailfishHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I thought the Sailfish costume was pretty cool, but Piranha Boy is 100% pure awesomeness. What's cooler than a kid costume with a blood spatter pattern all over it?
Friendly OtterHero and sidekick from the 1998 Summer Fun Special. I pictured Otter as a Ward Cleaver kind of dad, which would make for a funny superhero personality.
Captain PowerfulCamp counselor from the 1998 Summer Fun Special who later factors into the Hunt for Greased Pig in Tick and Arthur #5. Clearly, a Thor spoof visually, although he has no real superpowers.
Cosmic BobCamp counselor from the 1998 Summer Fun Special who later factors into the Hunt for Greased Pig in Tick and Arthur #5.
Disgruntled ElfFrom the 1997 Yule Log Special, my first full issue of The Tick as writer and artist!
LoomisAn unnamed background character in Ben Edlund's original series who comes back to kick things off in the Tick and Arthur series. Plus he eats dog food out of the can.
